Free Gulfstream Park Horse Pick for Wednesday 1/18

 Ok,

For Wednesday I've completely handicapped all 9 races from Gulfstream Park with Pick5, Pick4 and Pick3 wagers suggested. New this season I'm also doing some races from Turfway Park in KY which adds some night time wagers once the day is complete at GP. Turfway can produce wild results but its fun for me. We scored back to back PK5's a few weeks ago both over $2000. We happen to have a $32K PK5 carryover at Turfway tonight too, lets get some.

Nice races on tap at Gulfstream, with two Best Bets including the 5th which anchors both PK5s. The other strong play comes in the 8th so both good betting races are turf races. The 'new' turf course plays the same as the old turf course, it prefers speed. We've had some nice days and look forward to today's races.

Nice card at Turfway too, I enjoy the Tapeta races. I have two PK5 tickets up, one singling to start the other singling a runner who I've always thought had talent but just needed a different surface, and they get on Tapeta for the 1st time today. Lets have some fun.

For Wednesday's Free Pick ~

Gulfstream race 1 - #3 KANTA - This Into Mischief filly makes her 2nd start off the layoff so her fitness should be honed to a finer edge. She also drops in class for the 1st time today into non-winners of two lifetime claimers. She had trouble last out but with a cleaner run today I expect her to be forwardly placed from the gate and draw away late.

For Friday I've completely handicapped all 10 races from Gulfstream Park with Pick5, Pick4 and Pick3 wagers suggested. 

I've also handicapped the Stronach5 Pick5 but since they insist on using Laurel, weather might cancel the bet once again. Its so freaking dumb that a warm weather company with two tracks in California and one in Florida keeps using a dump like Laurel in the winter to add such a terrible race most gamblers of this wager would never bet ever.

Sucks to read an article where professional gamblers complained to Gulfstream brass that they need more dirt races since they don't like the Tapeta. I personally hate selecting short priced dirt horses but favorites win more often on dirt and I will have to start doing more of it. The turf course will be replaced after he Championship Meet and should be ready for next year. The Tapeta course provides very competitive races and requires skills and time to find winners, something I've never been lacking or afraid of. I prefer Tapeta over dirt since it scares handicappers who don't understand it, providing overlays to those with trained eyes to see it who remain ahead of the curve. Isn't this game about finding angles and exploiting them? Exactly the way I handicap turf races so successfully? But lets have more 3/5 favorites win on dirt, that's so exciting.

My Best Bet is on turf in the 5th today, looking at a solid $15+ winner then the Late PK5 seems best as they generously gave us one turf and Tapeta race and jammed 3 dirt races on us again.

Saturday's races are excellent, have the Late PK5 from Tampa Bay down with a nice turf swing to play.

Gulfstream race 1 - #8 CAJUN MANDATE - This Cajun Breeze colt was claimed last out for barn that strikes at a ridiculous 31% off the claim. He gets 1st Lasix today and comes in sharp off a nice work over the turf. A full siblings' best race was over this Tapeta, so he should be able to take his speed a long way first over the Tapeta today.

Fantastic day of racing at GP, I'm excited to play all day. I have horses I feel strongly about all day long. I have horses I like on the Tapeta and most of my turf horses today I'm the only one who likes which is always my favorite. The turf horses I like in the 2nd half of the day are all $25+ in the stakes which will help spice up the payoffs as we will have some short priced winners late.

Big weekend on tap, excellent Pegasus card Saturday where I already have some bombs sniffed out, Sunday I'll hoping to add the turf festival from Sam Houston too. 

Today's races look good too, I have two Best Bets as singles in each PK5, one is 12/1, the other is 15/1.

Only 2 Top Pick Winners Thursday but they were the Best Bet - Dial To Win who ran an excellent race paying $7.20 $4.40 $3.00 then finished the day with Dr Shane at $17.40 $8.00 $5.60. Winners of the first four races yesterday I had the one to beat and listed in 2nd so I was all over it but just couldn't finish. 

Today's races have good intrigue as I have three Best Bets listed (3rd, 8th, 10th) including one that nobody else has identified which is always my favorite plays. Looking forward to playing. The weekend looks good, lets gamble.

Gulfstream race 5 - #2 JEZEBEL'S KITTEN - This Kitten's Joy mare ran into tough company late last summer and now makes her 3rd start for the Davis barn on a nice up-cycle. She hasn't won in two years and is not normally my type but she tries hard finishing every time, gets blinkers on today which may help her with a more focused finish but the key is 1st time Tapeta and the mare had 5 wins & 4 2nd from 13 AW starts and I'm betting the surface puts her over the top for victory.

Gulfstream race 3 - #3 TWELTH MAN - This Mark Casse trained daughter of MALIBU Moon makes her 3rd lifetime start today which can be a horses best effort to date as it ensures fitness & recovery if first two outings took any toll. She whistled in her debut on dirt but stepped up and was rushed up only to weaken in her 2nd start over the Tapeta. She's a very rare claim for Casse, gets his Canadian stable jock up for what should be a much improved effort returning to the dirt today.

Gulfstream race 5 - #1 MR MATUSCHEK - This More Than Ready gelding ran a brave race last out making a middle move and weakening for a barn and jockey that were mired in a cold slumps. The Mr was claimed again by a barn who won at a 20% clip in 2021 plus gets a stronger jockey up, if he bounces back to his previous race where he overcame trouble to beat some of these, he'll be a handful at a solid price.

Rough and tumble Saturday as I didn't have enough winners to make it any fun. Cashed a few tickets but tough trips and tough company made for an eventful afternoon.

Sunday's always have a more peaceful feeling as Saturday's seem frenetic as they're jam packed with good races. I loved Man on the Hill last Sunday as my Best Bet and had to wait all the way to the last race of the day, got a great trip and was opening up at 22/1 until the Pletcher Weekend Squad roared past still registering a nice exacta. Today sets up much of the same as the day starts out slow with two $6250 claimers in Early PK5 so they are minefields in themselves. The action heats up considerably in the 5th, the smaller of two Best Bets in the afternoons first turf race. Just like last week, my Best Bet is in the last race and we'll be singled looking to cash another $15+ winners and the juicy PK5. Lets have some fun.

Gulfstream race 1 - #4 I LOVE MAGEL - This Mr Speaker mare ships down from Maryland in the new barn of trainer who won at 16% clip in 2021 from a 6% barn which can immediately spark up any horse. Toss her last race on dirt as she tries Tapeta today for the first time after big efforts on firm turf, I fully expect her to transfer that form to the All Weather much like her sire for victory.

I knew we were do for a score and some luck and I came through yesterday. Some tough beats last week including finishing Sunday running 2nd at 22/1. I used the same connections to score one for the home team Thursday. 

I had 3 Top Pick Winners finishing with Co-Best Bet - Glider $28.60 $15.20 $9.40 w/the $1890 PK5, $413 PK4, and the $108 PK3 and that was all through the first five races. I've been seeing the ball very well, always have the turf dialed in and now I certainly have the Tapeta ringing like a cash register. We are having fun and its not stopping.

For Wednesday I've completely handicapped all 10 races from Gulfstream park and races 5-9 from Tampa bay Downs with Pick5, Pick4 and Pick3 wagers suggested.

Tampa Bay has three turf races in the sequence wit ha single in the final leg, a few play for minimal investment. That's one thing I don't do is list PK5 tickets that cost $200, $300, etc. Those who list plays like that don't handicap, they just take out the blatant bad ones and use all the others. I actually handicap the races, do my best to find a single to stand on as it will keep ticket costs down. 

A nice set of races at Gulfstream today, the Tapeta saves the day as I've found more than a few nuggets for today's affairs. I enjoy handicapping the All Weather as much as the turf, its just as profitable as it is simply too much work for most. One of my Best Bets on Sunday was Yamato, going from turf to the Tapeta against one of my favorite south Florida horses in Light Fury, and I still bet with confidence as Yamato swooped past Light Fury late for an $18.40 winner. Score.

As said, some fun to be had today on the turf and the Tapeta, lets gamble!

For Wednesday's Free Pick ~

Gulfstream race 6 - #5 ON THE COUCH - This son of Freud makes his South Florida debut and 2nd off the layoff after a quick turf run at Aqueduct in November. Trainer Jorge Duarte returns to Gulfstream after a brief absence and it seems like they are here to rotate their stock as they've been aggressively placing horses in low claiming spots where they should win and are sure to get claimed by another barn. This runner stretches out to two turns and sire Freud, full brother to Giants Causeway strikes at his highest percentages at 21% wins in All Weather route races. We get a big jock switch to Luis Saez and anything close to the 6/1 Morning Line will be a gift.

7 Top Pick Winners from 15 Wednesday races going 5/10 at GP and 2/5 at TBD. The money shows down in Florida for sure, smaller pools and they don't lock out the computers like NY does so there are always odds changes after they have already left he gate. Thought I had some smart ones identified but most took lots of money but I piled up the winners.

Some interesting sequences today, lots of Tapeta again at Gulfstream and the Late PK5 from Tampa has a few good turf races. Should be a fun day, lets cash some tickets.

Christmas Week starts today with a decent series of races at GP. While I would enjoy more turf racing, the Tapeta races have been very competitive and exciting and I'm happy to have them. The dirt races seem to disappoint but at least it doesn't seem we're getting overwhelmed with cheap claimers.

I do like the races today, the Late PK5 looks ripe for a nice payoff and I can't wait to play. A few interesting ones at Tampa Bay too, we just need to survive the dirt races to cash.

He remains sharp with a big workout for this as he makes his 2nd start a winning one.

Gulfstream race 1 - #3 JACK BACKED - This Jack Milton colt debuted on turf in April with an excellent effort for small barn and was sold. He returned for Dane Kobiskie on dirt in October and was rushed up to set a big pace and stopped, but he should have moved forward fitness wise and has shown it in his recent workouts. He gets back on the turf today and looking to take these on a merry chase gate to wire.

The late races contain the best opportunities at both tracks as Tampa has three turf races in the PK5 and I have some interesting plays in the GP late races with two strongest plays to finish the afternoon. But I'll be playing all afternoon as sometimes the races at GP just keep giving.
