I wrote about the 2nd race at Aqueduct because i knew something.
I knew Eightyfiveinafifty was a monster but there was some well meant firsters in there too. Well Eightyfiveinafifty won by 17 lengths and got the Highest Beyer Speed Figure for a 3 year old at 105!! This bad boy was never asked at any point and was just coasting down the stretch.
He certainly will have to win around two turns and I think he can, but how far is still unknown. He was on my Derby Dozen list #1 but was removed since he had yet to start again until yesterday. The average winning distance of his sire is under 7 furlongs but that has been the thing in recent history.
I love to poo poo Derby lists that are all well known 2 yr old stake horses. You have to have foresight and see what they will be like on May 1st. Most 2 yr old stake horse never grow to be great 3 yr olds. It only took 20 years to break the jinx of the Breeder's Cup Juvenile winner to win the Derby and with the exception on Street Sense 2 yr old champs don't train on to win the Derby either.
Hence why I have a virtual unknown in my #1 slot and have had the gumption to use Eightyfiveinafifty on list #1 cause I knew he was special. We'll see if he becomes this years first big money purchase. Ya know the Sheiks and the Wine Maker both have seen the race by now.
Anyway - Jack's Derby Dozen list #3 coming soon ...
