ZJ's Double Derby Dozen 2011 - #6

Here we go again -

The Double Derby Dozen has been blown up with five new horses added and five going bye-bye for now. Dropped were Runflatout, Wine Police, Twinspired, due to lack of any starts and Read the Contract and Shadow Warrior for bad return races.

I also had ten horses move up or down on the DDD. As I said , I blew it up! The Top 6 haven't changed. The Holy Bull stakes running Sunday 1/30 will have implications as both Mucho Macho Man and Dialed In are scheduled to make their respective three year old debuts.

New on the DDD #6 are -

Soldat - sizzled on a sloppy surface  at Gulfstream running Cool Blue Red Hot into the ground. Sired by War Front - who seems to sire late developing offspring who get better with age. This horse is probably the second fastest horse on the DDD to The Factor. He is in good hands as well.

Washington's Rule - Mr McPeek was bubbling about this colt who won an off the turf race at Gulfstream last weekend at one mile. He was just getting unwound at eight furlongs and is begging for two turns. Will run all day.

Wilkinson - Mr Howard's runner is still green but found the courage to rally through a tight hole on the rail for victory at the Fair Grounds. Mr Howard is currently winning more races this winter than he's won in many years. He has a few nice colts , this one might be his best.

Elite Alex - Mr Ritchey returns with son of Afleet Alex. Was left 10 lengths at start , got beat a nose , and returned to the barn bloody and bruised from his efforts. This tough SOB will be a handful if he continues to develop.

Finally added was Casper's Touch - another McPeek runner who he thinks is 'his best' at this point in time. Still a maiden - he ran at Royal Ascot last summer in a restricted race for sires who've won at 12 furlongs or more!  Being by Touch Gold , he traveled to England and finished 3rd as a two year old. He is returning within 10 days and will knock it out of the park.

So here we go - ZJ's Double Derby Dozen - #6 -

1. TO HONOR AND SERVE - on schedule for Fountain of Youth

2.ROGUE ROMANCE - is a little behind stablemate Casper's Touch according to McPeek.

3. UNCLE MO - two year old champ.

4. DANCINGINHERDREAMS -(filly)- working smartly at Palm Meadows.

5. BREAK UP THE GAME - galloped out very strong last week, very excited for next.

6. MUCHO MACHO MAN - on schedule for this Sunday's Holy Bull.

7. TAPIZAR - aired on speed crazy dirt highway called Santa Anita.

8. SOLDAT - speedy son of War Front headed to FOY.

9. TURBULENT DECENT - (filly) - smoked 1:23 workout for 7 furlongs last weekend.

10. WASHINGTON'S RULE - longer the race , the better.

11. BANDBOX - working well in Mid-Atlantic for return.

12. ELITE ALEX - son of Afleet Alex ran amazing race last out.

13. THE FACTOR - raw Beyer fig was 150~ but adjusted to 103 - dirt highway?

14. DIALED IN - Zito has a good one here.

15. COOL BLUE RED HOT - popped and stopped against Soldat.

16. BRETHREN - the Toddster's back up plan.

17. LEAVE OF ABSENCE - will get a lot out of return race.

18. COMMA TO THE TOP - So Cal flash has won five straight.

19. ECONOMIC SUMMIT - anticipating his return.

20. SOVEREIGN DEFAULT - another Violette runner who will like two turns.

21. WILKINSON - Mr Howard is back on the Derby trail.

22. CASPER'S TOUCH - training like McPeek's best three yr old.

23. UNCLE SAM - plummeted off horrible race in Sham, should rebound.

24. MONZON - will run all day and then some.

That's it - another DDD in the books. Stay tuned as this weekends action with have a ripple effect next time.

I'm very eager to see what Dancinginherdreams does Sunday, she has a lot of potential.

Me too Brian. Yesterday Mr Ward said she was the best horse he's ever put his hands on! That's a bold statement since he won the 2nd fastest Derby of all time with Monarchos in 1:59 and change.
